The Ugly Duckling

I was walking in the park today when I suddenly noticed a small piece of paper tossed on the wet grass, hidden from view. I grabbed the paper out of curiosity and read it. The note read: “No one would have accepted you but us. We were kind enough to bring you in.”

I looked around, curious to see who this message was for when I saw no one. I looked at the note again. As I was reading, I suddenly remembered the story of the Little Ugly duckling. Little Ugly Duckling was a unique duck who had become subject to the bullies and insults from his surroundings just for being a little different.

I bitterly smiled and grabbed my pen from my purse. Under the same note, I added: “You didn’t accept me because you were kind. You accepted because you needed me. Like the Ugly Duckling that grew to glow despite being abandoned by the people around him, I will grow and my beauty will become the center of attention.”

The Little Ugly Duckling is an old fairy tale, but it is still a story that we all need to learn from, even in today’s society.
